Free cataract surgeries for 50 by Rotary Club

The Department of Health of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) had organised 50 cataract surgeries on Monday free of charge to help low income families.
These surgeries were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo West and performed by Consultant Eye Surgeon Dr. Shamintha Amaratunge in Wijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital in Seeduwa.
Hospital staff of the Wijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital had taken all actions to provide facilities to handle the surgeries.
Under guidance of the Mayor of the CMC, A. J. M. Muzzammil, the programme was carried for 50 selected eye patients in the Colombo area.
The officials of the Health Department said that surgeries were conducted successfully.
It said that the patients would be provided follow up as well.  The programme was conducted by the Rotary Club of Colombo West in celebration of its Golden Jubilee.
