An audit inquiry is being conducted into the unusual direct transfer of Rs. 29 million from the Western PC to the contractor, the military, bypassing the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Colombo Mayor A. J. M Muzammil said.
He said the funds were supposed to be provided to the Municipal Council to construct bus shelters in the city. “The funds which were supposed to come to us and then transferred to the contractor, the military, were  transferred direct to the contractor,” he said.
The military which had received the contract had completed the project. “We are very happy with what they have done and in fact they have been awarded the contract of constructing 34 more bus shelters in the city,” he said.
