Unauthorised stalls constructed after illegally filling a tract of paddy in  Katubedde  were demolished by the Moratuwa Police and public health inspectors on a complaint made by the Kesbewa ACity-DM-4 grarian Services Centre.  The Department of Agrarian Service had made a complaint against persons who had illegally filled a paddy field and constructed trade stalls. A group of individuals receiving political patronage had been responsible for the act.  Police said they initiated investigations into the complaint and had informed the individuals concerned to demolish the unauthorised stalls about two weeks ago, but the stalls were not demolished.  Police had informed the Moratuwa Municipal Council that deployed a team of PHIs and workers to demolish the stalls.
The ill- planned stalls had been constructed without permission from the MMC and without following sanitary regulations applicable to markets and fairs.
