A light aircraft belonging to a reputed Sri Lankan Aviation Engineer and Air Pilot Ray Wijewardene was yesterday handed over to the Air Force Museum. State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene was the chief guest at the ceremony. The aircraft was taken over by Air Marshall Kolitha Gunatillake. A replica of the Aircraft was presented as a memento to Engr. Ray Wijewardene’s family by the Minister.
Addressing the ceremony State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene said he was proud of Engr. Ray Wijewardene who was a reputed Aviation Engineer. “The aircraft assembled in Sri Lanka by him was donated to Air Force by his wife yesterday.
I am pleased to find that it will be exhibited in the Air Force Museum. Engr. Ray Wijewardene had rendered a yeoman service in the field of Aviation. I must also express my gratitude to the Air Force that modernized the air craft. I am hopeful that Sri Lanka will have similar glorious individuals who would bring repute to the country. The present government has an effective plan to help the new inventors”
Air Marshall Kolitha Gunatilleka also addressed the gathering.
