The suspect was a twenty five-year- old married man. Charges had been filed against the suspect that he had lured the bride on or about January 30, 2001, while the wedding function was in progress saying that the sister was sick and admitted to the Karawanella hospital, and on the way under the ruse of obtaining a food packet to the patient had sent the bridegroom on an errand and fled with the bride in a threewheeler.

The defending attorney had stated to Courts that the bride had gone with the suspect on her own accord.
