Legal action against dengue breeders

Legal action was initiated against 12 residents who failed to keep their home gardens clear of dengue mosquito grounds despite continual warnings. Chief Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Indika Ellawala said the individuals concerned had been warned and issued with red notices prior to legal action, but they ignored it.

Dr. Elalwala said 4731 home gardens and business establishments in Watarappala, Kawdana, Kotalawalapura, Ratmalana East, Attidiya North and South, and Mantrimulla health divisions were inspected by a team of PHIs. 

Fumigation was carried out in several high risk areas.  He said 657 premises with Dengue mosquito breeding grounds were identified and the owners warned and served with red notices. Administrative PHI, H. Lalith Perera, area PHIs  M.B. Ajith Sanjeewa, Wasantha Pushpakumara, W.K. Jayasinghe, Laxman Siriwardene, N.P.G.Wimalaratne, officers of the Werahera Dengue Prevention Unit, Mt. Lavinia Police Environmental Unit, officers of the Ratmalana Air Force Base, and representatives of civil society organisations launched the campaign under the instructions of Dr. Indika Ellawala.
