Former UPFA MP Widanagamage remanded

Former UPFA Badulla District parliamentarian Thenuka Widanagamage was yesterday remanded till July 14 by the Mahiyanganaya Magistrate after he surrendered to the Police for violating election laws in Mahiyanganaya.

Police said they arrested six people including Mr. Widanagamage on charges of having assaulted UNP supporters who were putting up posters in the Mahiyangana town on the night of June 29.

A 32-year-old resident of Meegahapitiya had to be admitted to the Mahiyangana Hospital with cut injuries. Four suspects were arrested on an earlier occasion while Mr. Widanagamage and another person surrendered to the Police yesterday.
Mahiyangana Magistrate Geethani Wijesinghe ordered that Mr. Widanagamage be remanded till July 14.
