After completing the renovations of the Hyde Park grounds the hotspot for political meetings,  the Colombo Municipality is to reopen it shortly.  The ground situated at Hyde Park Corner, a popular venue for assorted  meetings for generations, is receiving a face lift, Colombo Mayor A. J.  M Muzzamil said.

A Rs. 100 million face lifting project has included a permanent stage for meetings and functions with a lighting system for evening events. Previously, organisers were forced to set up their own stage, sound and light systems when renting out the ground.
The municipality press is also to be shifted to a new building that is being constructed. The new building is also to house a gym and an office for trade unions.

“We started renovations six or seven months ago and we hope to declare the premises open soon. We are waiting for a date with the Prime Minister to open it,” Muzzamil said.
