Parents of a six year old child staged a fast unto death campaign in front of the Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya to protest against the school administration that refused their child grade one admission.

TheDM_20150915_A001-6y said the child had been left without a school for more than one and a half years. They said they staged the fast to draw the attention of President Maithripala Sirisena who was scheduled to attend a ceremony at Dharamapala Vidyalaya.  However when the President arrived the Police parked a jeep to prevent him from noticing the scene. The child’s father Y.D.Ranainghe said he was a past pupil who brought repute to the school through his new inventions. He accused the authorities of refusing to admit his son despite fulfilling all requirements for admission. He said in response to his appeal the Minister of Education ordered to admit his son to the school but the principal had ignored  even the ministry order.

Meanwhile Dharmapala Vidyalaya Principal Sunil Ranjith said he received more than 2000 applications and only 300 of them could be accommodated depending on available space in the buildings and the strength of the staff.
