Woman demanding ransom from husband remanded

A woman who eloped  with her lover  and  at the instigation of the lover had informed her husband that she was abducted by a gang and that she was being tortured. She had said that the gang had demanded a ransom of Rs. 30,000 to release her. 6

She had given a bank account number to credit the money. During the investigations of a complaint of the woman’s mother, Maho Police arrested the woman and her lover during a raid in Wilgamuwa area.  It was revealed that her lover who was in need of money to spend for a case against him and the woman concerned had attempted to cheat her husband and find money for her lover’s case.  The woman who left her home under the pretext of obtaining treatment from a doctor in Maho for a sickness had eloped with the lover and lived with him for several days in Kurunegala and other places. The suspects were produced before the Maho Chief Magistrate Ruvini Jayawardene and remanded till September 23, 2015. OIC Crime Investigation Branch SI Ratnayake , Sergeant 30563 Ratnayake, PCc 20059 Deegalla, 34119 Tissa Bandara, 55033 Jayantha and 55135 Milton are conducting further investigations on the instructions of HQI Maho police R. Jaynatha ,  ASP H.M.P. Herath and Nikaweratiya SP Serasinghe.
