The All Ceylon Basnayake Nilames’ Association last morning attended religious observances and an Adistana Pooja at the Sri Dalada Maligawa and issued a media statement to explain facts to the people on the derogatory statements made by several organisations and individuals against the Diyawadana Nilame of Sri Dalada Maligawa.

President of the Association and Basnasyake Nilame of the Sri  Kataragama Devala in Kandy, Kushan Wegodapola told the media that they invoked the blessings of the Sacred Tooth Relic on the Diyawadana Nilame and held an Adistana Pooja to prevent the attempts of some organisations and individuals to tarnish the image of the Diyawadana Nilame and to bring disrepute to him.

“ Pradeep Nilanga Dela has been elected for a second term at a formal election. We thank the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters, the Basnayake Nilames , the Trustees of the Devalas and the Divisional Secretaries who voted for him. Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa is the lay leader of the Buddhists. Individuals and organisation motivated by personal agenda have made derogatory statements through the media and the websites. We strongly condemn their attempt.  Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela has rendered a yeoman service for the last ten years to  uplift the Buddhists and to improve the Sri Dalada Maligawa. He helped the Dhamma schools and the low income Buddhist families and uplifted the International Buddhist education. We request the individuals and the organisations concerned to refrain from bringing disrepute to the Diyawadana Nilame and the Sri Dalada Maligawa which is held in high esteem by the Buddhists all over the world. Our organisation will take steps to draw the attention of the Buddha Sasana and Buddhist Affairs Ministry on this cruel insult to the Diyawadana Nilame and the Sri Dalada Maligawa. Ven. Mahanayake Theras have also expressed concern about the issue,” he said..

Secretary of the Association- Seewali Nugegoda, Treasurer- Bandara Herath, and Basnayake Nilames, Anura Eeriyagama, Mohan Panabokke, Asela Bndaranayaka, Jayampathi Heenkenda, Ruwan Etipola, Priyantha Jayasundere, Sisira Paranagama, Eellepola and Meepitiya were present at the occasion.
