UPFA Parliamentarian Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, who was arrested by the CID in connection with a murder in 1999, was remanded till October 20 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday, the Police said.

Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya DM_20151008_A001-20visited the hospital where Tenakoon was undergoing retreatment, to inspect his condition prior to ordering him to be remanded.

The Magistrate had informed the CID to submit a medical report of Tennakoon to Court and to produce him before Matale Magistrate on October 20. Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said the Parliamentarian was still undergoing treatment at the hospital under Police protection and added he would be handed over to Prisons officials by the CID.

Tennakoon was arrested by the CID on Tuesday (06) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

The Police said the CID was conducting investigations into the shooting incident in which a man was killed and another injured at Dambulgamuwa in Matale on December 14, 1999. The CID had informed Tennakoon to report to the CID on Monday in connection with the investigations.  However, he had admitted himself to a hospital instead of reporting to the CID.
