Landslide warning in eight districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) warned of landslides in eight districts if rains continue in the coming days. Accordingly, people residing in the districts of Hambantota, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Kandy, Kalutara, Ratnapura and Matara Districts were requested to be alert for landslides.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicted rainfall figures which may go up to 100mm in the Northwestern, Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Southern provinces particularly after 12.00 noon.  Showers were expected in several places in the Eastern province during the morning as well.


Temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers may occur and the general public was requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.


Showers were reported in several areas with Moneragala receiving the highest rainfall of 108.6mm while Pottuvil received a rainfall of 34.6mm, Trincomalee 26mm and Bandarawela 23.8mm yesterday.
