Former Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Vice President Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman said yesterday he would resign from the SLFP and join the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) led by V Anandasangaree.65

He said the discussions were attended by him and Mr. Sampanthan from the TELO, Suresh Premachandran from the EPRLF, Sivashakthi Anandan and Dharmalingam Siddharthan from PLOTE and M.A. Sumanthiran from the Thamil  Arasu Kachchi.  Mr. Adaikalanathan said they had also discussed the registration of the TNA as a recognised political party, the release of Tamil political prisoners and the releasing of lands occupied by the security forces to the original owners in the North.

Suresh Premachandra who was not on friendly terms with the TNA was conspicuous by his presence at this meeting. He said he chose the TULF because he did not want to join parties such as Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which is turning out to be a hard-line party.
When asked whether he discussed this matter with Mr. Anandasangaree, he said he had spoken to the TULF leader and he had said he would have to take it up with his party’s central committee.

“However, the TULF leader did not dismiss my request and had said anyone is welcomed to join his party,” Mr. Muralitharan said.
Meanwhile, he said all good aspects of the 13th Amendment should be implemented and the land issues of the Northern and Eastern people should be resolved through it but however he denied reports which said he had called for the merger of North and the East.

“I wanted former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to implement the good aspects of the 13th Amendment but the change of government prevented him from doing so,” Mr.  Muralitharan said.
