With its mission to educate and enlighten people on the threat by multinational food companies to the people’s health and wellbeing, Dailymirror has won the top award given by the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA).

Our feature writer Sarah Muiz has won the 2015 Award for Excellence in Health Journalism. The award was for her article headlined “Instant Noodles in Hot Water”, an investigative feature on the dangers of certain brands of noodles in the Sri Lankan market.


Meanwhile Dailymirror  columnist Dr. Mahesh Rajasuriya last month won the 2015 South Asia Healthcare Journalist of the Year Award offered by the British Medical Journal. Dr. Rajasuriya who was contributing to Daily Mirror with his expertise and knowledge shared the award with Rema Nagarajan of the Times of India at the awards night on October 31.

His articles featured the big pharma, how some multinational food companies playing with the lives of our children critically exposed the dangers of the tobacco industry. Dr. Rajasuriya is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Colombo National Hospital and a senior lecturer with a special interest in psychotherapy at the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
