Hostel for children of war heroes in Slave Island

The foundation stone for the four storey hostel inclusive of all facilities was laid in Slave Island led by the Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene.

The hostel will be constructed as part of the Slave Island Defence Service College to facilitate students who are children of war heroes. A total cost of Rs. 603 million is allocated for the construction of the building and the hostel will provide accommodation facilities to 554 students. Sources report that the hostel will include facilities such as a film theatre, a medical centre, kitchen and a salon in addition to many other modern amenities.

The building will be constructed with the funds allocated by the Ministry of Education. Principal of the Defence Service College Dhammika Jayaneththi said that Rs. 100 million have been allocated by the Ministry for the first phase of the project. The construction work will be carried out by the Sixth Engineering Service Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army while all work related to the construction of the building is expected to be completed by October 26, 2017. Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Lieutenant General Krishantha Silva, Vice Admiral of the Navy Ravindra Wijeygunaratne and many other distinguished guests graced the event.
