The government has neglected the reconstruction work on the roads and the playgrounds at Mattegoda Housing Scheme, the residents in Mattegoda Housing Scheme said. They said that there was a constant threat of road accidents taking place on the main road of the scheme due to lack of pedestrian crossings. They stated that the main road of the Mattegoda Housing Scheme was constructed two years ago and the relevant authorities had failed to draw the yellow lines of the crossings.

They had requested the authorities to implement immediate measures to start the renovations on roads including the main road in the scheme

“Several sub roads had been reconstructed by the authorities some years ago but recently those roads also have been broken and have not been constructed for almost ten years”, residents said. They had requested the authorities to implement immediate measures to start the renovations on roads including the main road in the scheme. “Almost 1200 houses were in the scheme and there were a huge amount of vehicles travelling daily by using the Mattegoda – Kottawa Road. Hence it is essential to add yellow crossings to the main points of this road”, they said. Furthermore, they said that children’s playgrounds too were ruined and they had to close these playgrounds.
