The Attorney General has filed indictment before the Colombo High Court against Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on criminal misappropriation of Rs. 26 million of the Divineguma Department without the approval of the General Treasury.
The Attorney General had also charged former Director General of the Divineguma Development Department Amita Kitsiri Ranawaka as well. The AG had filed six charges against the suspects. The charges were under the Penal Code and the Presidential Elections Act, following the investigations conducted by the Financial Crimes Division. Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa who went abroad after the last Presidential election returned to Sri Lanka to give a statement before the FCID and was arrested thereafter. He was released on bail after being in remand custody for several weeks. The case is to be called before the Colombo High Court this week.
