Colombo High Court Judge Pathmini Ranawaka yesterday summoned Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and former ‘Divi Neguma fund’ Director General R.R.K. Ranawaka to appear in Court on March 10 over the alleged misappropriation of public funds amounting to Rs. 29 million allegedly used to publish almanacs to be distributed among voters during the last presidential election campaign.
Earlier, the former Minister and the former ‘Divi Neguma fund’ Director General were indicted by the Attorney General on six counts. The duo had also been charged for trying to influence voters through bribery and corruption.Former Minister Rajapaksa left the country soon after the Presidential polls on January 8 and arrived in the country in April after staying in the United States for over three months.Later he was arrested by the Police in April over the alleged misappropriation of Divi Neguma funds and was subsequently released on bail.
