 BY Untitled-1AND HIRAN PRIYANKARA JAYASINGHE A 12-year-old boy, his mother and grandmother were killed after being run over by a lorry at Saliyawewa on the Puttalam- Anuradhapura road last morning, Police said.

They said the deceased, Ranasinghe Arachchilage Imalka Heshan (12), Bolthumba Arachchilage Hemalatha (62) and Karasinghe Arachchilage Yasohamy (82) were residents of Ranawarapitiya in Saliyawewa. Police said they were on their way to the Saliyawewa Sri Sumangalarama temple on Medin Poya Day to observe Sil when the tragedy occurred some 100 metres from the temple. Investigations revealed that the lorry driver had rushed the injured child to the Puttalam Base Hospital before fleeing from the area. The two others died on admission to the Nochchiyagama District Hospital. Saliyawewa Police OIC Inspector Chaya Kumarasinghe, Sergeant 55050 Somaratne and PCs 5990 Kumarasinghe and 66517 Karunadasa are conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP D.E.J.P. Nanayakkara and SP L.P.S.P. Sandungahawatta.
