The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud (PRECIFAC) has requested a report from the Immigration and Emigration Department on the foreign visits by former minister Basil Rajapaksa’s wife Pushpa and daughter Thejani who had twice failed to report to the Commission.

A Commission spokesman said Mr. Rajapaksa’s wife and daughter had been summoned by PRECIFAC on charges of misusing flights operated by the Air Force but they had informed the Commission that they were out of the country. He said a report had been requested from the Immigration and Emigration Department to verify whether the two of them had actually gone abroad as claimed. The spokesman said the summons sent by registered mail to their Medamulana residence on May 5 were returned while another letter mailed on May 13 had been returned by the police officers on duty at the the residence. He said the Commission would record a statement from the police officers who were on duty at the time at the Medamulana residence
