ssBY CHATURANGA PRADEEP Bus fares should go up by five to six percent from July 1, in keeping with the agreement with the National Transport Commission (NTC),said Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) president Gemunu Wijeratne yesterday.

According to the NTC the bus fare increment for this year should be 3.2 percent — from July 1. “Bus fares should be increased by five to six percent. The 3.2 percent figure was due to a miscalculation,” he said. “We, the LPBOA, do not request a 15 percent increment. A five to six percent increment could be borne by the people of the country,” he said.
