s3BY T. FAROOK THAJUDEEN Former Colombo Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage, who was earlier released on bail by the Nugegoda Magistrate, was once again released on bail by the Colombo High Court yesterday under a new set of conditions.

High Court Judge Manilal Waidyathilaka released Mr. Gamage on a one-million-rupee cash bail with three sureties of Rs.1.5 million each. The Judge directed that the sureties should be executives in the public sector and observed that an elephant was considered public property and being in possession of such an animal without a valid licence was an un-bailable offence. However, he said he granted bail considering that the suspect was a judicial officer who had assisted the CID in their investigations and had complied with court orders. A revision application was filed by the AG seeking to set aside the bail granted by Nugegoda Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne on June 2. Earlier, the Colombo High Court suspended the Nugegoda Magistrate’s bail order and noticed Mr. Gamage to appear in court yesterday.
