BY DARSHANA SANJEEWA Three drug smugglers had been arrested with 1 kilogram of heroin with a street value of Rs. 10 million by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) during a raid in Colombo yesterday, the Police said.

The Police said that investigations had revealed the suspects had connections with the notorious drug smugglers Samantha Kumara alias Wele Suda and Tharmarajah Suseendran alias Susee, who were in remand custody on charges of smuggling narcotics. The Police said that the duo were directing the racket from their prison cell. The Police suspect that an international drug cartel may have connections to the racket. According to the Police, the arrested suspects-aged between 20 and 24 -were identified as residents of Colombo and Dehiwala. They said the arrest was made following information gathered from a mobile number, which was received from the prison. One of the suspects had been in remand custody on an earlier occasion on charges possessing drugs. The suspects were detained for seven days for further investigations.
