Negombo Acting Magistrate Shantha Niriella on Saturday permitted the Police Narcotics Bureau to detain for seven days for questioning the Pakistani national who had been arrested for allegedly smuggling heroin worth Rs. 500 million into the country by concealing the drugs in a false bottom in his luggage.

The man was arrested at the Katunayake International Airport under the charges of smuggling in, possessing and selling heroin. The authorities had recovered 5 kilos of drugs in a false bottom of his luggage. The police suspect that the person is an international drug peddler produced him before the Acting Magistrate and requested permission to detain him for seven days for questioning and the Magistrate ordered him to be detained under the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau until July 1. He also ordered to submit a detailed report to the court on the investigation.
