Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya confirmed yesterday that in the absence of sufficient evidence, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka could not be named a suspect in the Rajagiriya accident, in which Minister’s vehicle was involved.

Considering the contradictory statements made by witnesses and the progress of the Police investigations, the Magistrate said there was no way the Minister could be named a suspect in the inquiry. The Magistrate said that, the initial statement given by the witnesses after the accident, had not mentioned any involvement of Minister Ranawaka. However, the second statement, which was given through affidavits five days after the accident, had stated Minister’s name contradicting the first statement, Magistrate said
