“Sahanartna” a Kathak recital at Bishop’s

kathak1The Indian High Commission is pleased to announce a Kathak performance titled ‘Sahanartana’, by renowned danseur from India Ms. Pragati Sood Anand and her ensemble which will be held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium this month. The programme is being organised with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs and the Gateway Hotel, Colombo.

This performance is held to commemorate the 70th Independence Day of India and it also part of the ongoing “Sangam: Festival of India in Sri Lanka”.
The occasion will be graced by the presence of many dignitaries including the chief guest for the evening, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanyake.

Pragati Sood Anand has emerged as a Kathak dancer who has been successful in discovering and shaping her dance with a distinct style. Pragati has performed widely in India and in many countries such as France, Spain,Germany, Switzerland, Ireland,Iceland, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Australia, South Africa, Myanmar, Thailand, Slovak Republic, Romania, Russia,USA and Latin America. She has been honoured with the Young FICCI Ladies Organisation(YFLO) and the Young Women Achievers Award for 2012-13.Pragati was the first Indian to perform in the prestigious Harpa Cultural Centre in Reykjavik,Iceland.

Pragati’s ensemble consists of dancers Shipra Joshi, Shivalika Vijay Kataria, Simran Malhotra and Nilakshi Khandkar. She will be accompanied by Fateh Alion (sitar), Akhilesh Bhatton (tabla) and Imran Khanas (vocalist).
