Untitled-4 Untitled-5BY H.M.DHARMAPALA AND KUSAL CHAMATH Health authorities who carried out raids on hotels, restaurants and groceries in Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Ratmalana areas order the immediate closure of three hotels and destroyed a large stock of food unfit for human consumption. Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Indika Ellawala said they carried out raids on the instructions of the Ministry of Health on public complaints. He said the stock of food seized and destroyed included kottu rotti, cooked rice, fried rice, chicken curry, rotti paste, beef curry, dhal curry, date expired cakes and biscuits, sweets soft drinks, and spices.

The CMOH said three hotels were closed on a Court order and the owners were instructed to improve the services and to inform the area PHI for inspection to consider the possibility of granting approval to reopen. He said the raids were continuing under the programme to save consumers from unscrupulous traders, racketeers and caterers who violated sanitary regulations applicable to catering and food safety.
