COPE report referred to AG for further action: UNP

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) report, which holds Central Bank’s former governor Arjuna Mahendran responsible for the bond scam, has been referred to the Attorney General, United National Party (UNP) General Secretary and Minister Kabir Hashim said yesterday.DM_20161102_A001-3

He said it would facilitate further investigations into the scam.   
“UNP has pledged to follow the principles of good governance where everyone is equal before the law and followed it up with the introduction of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution upholding the independence of the law enforcement agencies” Mr. Hashim said while stating the UNP’s stance on the COPE report and highlighting the fact that the UNP would not defend wrongdoers.   
He also revealed that details on some primary dealers had been handed over to the FCID and said some Central Bank officials were known to have been dealing with a few of the primary dealers.  “Anyone involved in frauds whether big or small will have to be dealt with,” Mr. Hashim said.
