s3BY DAYARATHNE PATHIRANA The National Three wheeler Vehicle Employees Union commenced obtaining signatures throughout Tuesday, to a petition against the charging of fees for the registration of three wheelers by the Western Province Passenger Transport authority. The protestors stated that their association had earlier launched protests against this move and the Chief Minister of the Western Province then had intervened in resolving the issue. Despite the directions given by a committee of Councillors appointed by the Chief Minister to stop this registration, the protestors alleged that the registration continued secretly. The Piliyandala three Wheeler Owners Association further alleged that, disregarding the implementation of proposals for establishment of parking lots, bringing down the cost of spare parts of three wheelers, minimizing the fines imposed on offences and other related issues contained in the guidelines and only giving priority to the registration of the three wheelers would continue to be opposed by them. This was stated by Association President A. Laxman.
