ZEEBRA CALF BORN IN DEHIWALA ZOO

DHARMAALA The pair of zebras received from China in 2008 under the animal exchange programme became proud parents with the birth of a calf on Sunday (07) at the Zoological Garden in Dehiwala, Acting Director General Dhammika Malsinghe said. Five more calves were born in the recent past to other zebra mares in the zoo and two of them had been sent to the Hambanthota Safari Park. They were all in good health, Assis tant Director Anoma Kumudini said. Zebra calves born in natural surrounding in the forest were able to stand and walk unsteadily in few minutes after the birth and the mother zebra would take them to a more secured places in the forest, she said.
