Court impounds passports of Senadhipathi and Palitha

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara yesterday impounded the passport of Avant Garde Maritime Security Limited Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi and that of retd. Maj. Gen. Palitha Fernando.  Untitled-5

The Magistrate made this order during the inquiry into a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption against Mr. Senadhipathi for paying Rs.35.5 million to Maj.Gen. Fernando as a gratification solicited by him.    The suspects Nissanka Senadhipathi and Palitha Fernando were arrested on September 6 last year when they arrived at the Bribery Commission to record a statement. They were produced in Court and released on bail by Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya   

In a separate case the Bribery Commission had charged Mr. Senadhipathi, Maj. Gen. Palitha Fernando, former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and six others for allowing Avant Garde (Pvt) Ltd. to make a profit Rs.11.4 billion by unlawfully maintaining a floating armoury.   
Further inquiry was postponed for April 3.
