Prof. A. D. V. De S Indraratna, who is widely considered the ‘Doyen of Economics Teachers of Sri Lanka’ and a legend in the field of economics in the country, passed away yesterday at the age of 84.  DM_20170119_A001-46

Professor Indraratna’s professional career spans more than six decades, having commenced in 1952 when he was appointed as an assistant lecturer in economics at the University of Ceylon. 

He was the founder Professor of Economics (1968-1980) and was elected the first Dean of the newly created Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Colombo.   
He was elected President of Sri Lanka Economics Association (SLEA) in 2005 and functioned in the position until his demise.
