Public Health officials organized an emergency shramadana campaign when they found numerous dengue breeding grounds in the school premises, when it was inspected yesterday.

The Chief Public Health Officer for Moratuwa, Malinda Jayawardena said they found a number of tyres, abandoned tanks and buckets filled with water, behind the main building of the school.

When questioned, both the Principal and the Vice Principal stated that the building contractors who were employed not too long ago, had left such items everywhere in the school premises.

Officials found dengue larvae, when the water was tested at the site. The Principal of the school was warned and measures were taken to clear the premises as soon as possible, Jayawardana said.

Officers from the Air Force, Police and school children participated in the shramadana programme to clear the school premises.
