Legal action against ten eateries

Health authorities that raided several hotels, restaurants and groceries in Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Ratmalana areas filed action against ten traders for displaying and serving food unfit for human consumption. 


Chief Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Dr. Indika Ellawala said they raided 12 hotels and restaurants, an ice-cream stall, ten fruit stalls, a super market and a rice store on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dhammika Mutugala. 


He said the stock of food seized and destroyed included chicken, beef and dhal curries, cooked rice, ice cream, sausages, beef, fried rice, Kottu, dough, expired cakes and biscuits, soft drinks and fruits. 


He further stated that red notices were issued on ten business establishments, warning them to improve the standards of their services and to strictly adhere to food safety regulations applicable to storing food. 


MOH Dr. Indika Ellawala, Public Health Inspectors R.P.T. Rajapakse and W.K. Jayasinghe and Sanitary Supervisor M.W.P. Karunarathne conducted the raids.
