Large piles of discarded rail tracks have been left to the mercy of the elements along the Boosa and Wellabada area over the past few years.

Residents said, the C.G.R even though facing huge losses, were not keen to use such material to their advantage, nor were they keen on resolving such an issue.

This kind of rails can be seen not only in Boossa area but also along the coastal line up to Matara.

“We are waiting to see what the authorities will do about it. If they were to sell this for scrap iron, they would be able to make some money from it,” residents said.

Many in the area requested the Railway Department to take measures to remove the rail lines. They said the material was removed by the Indian company which constructed the Southern Railway several years ago.
