Half centuries by Dhanushka Gunathilak, Kusal Perera and Thisara Perera laid the foundation for Sri Lanka ‘A’ to record a 47-run win on the Duckworth/Lews scoring method against England Lions in the first of the five unofficial ODI matches played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium yesterday.

Sri Lanka ‘A’, invited to take first lease of the wicket were given a flying start of 123 runs by openers Dhanushka who made 64 with five boundaries and a six and Kusal who scored 59 with eight boundaries and a six.

Later, Thisara made a quick-fire unbeaten knock of 56 from only 35 balls that included two boundaries and five sixes. He was associated in a 65-run stand for the seventh wicket with Skipper Milinda Siriwardana as Sri Lanka ‘A’ made a formidable 278 for seven.
England Lions in their run chase made steady progress before they lost wickets at regular intervals and collapsed to 133 for seven.

This was followed by a valuable partnership of 76 runs between Liam Livingstone and Craig Overton before the match was called off due to bad light with England Lions on 230 for nine falling short of the required D/L target by 48 runs during the stoppage.
The two teams will play their second match on March 4 at the same venue. (MSA)
