‘Eka Danthaya’ is no more

 A tusker that belonged to the Sri Dalada Maligawa known by as ‘Eka Danthaya,’ which had participated in the historic Kandy Esala Perahera for 40 years, died yesterday aged 50. The elephant was called ‘Eka Danthaya’ as it only had one tusk. 

Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Pradeep Nilanga Dela said an autopsy into the jumbo’s death would be conducted by Veterinary Surgeons and Wildlife Officers to determine the cause of death which occurred on a land belonging to the Temple of the Tooth Relic in the Pallekelle area.
