Cabinet approves Counter Terrorism Bill

The Cabinet is reported to have approved the Counter Terrorism Bill to be enacted in place of the Prevention of Terrorism 
Act (PTA).  

The government had given an undertaking to replace the PTA with fresh legislation on countering terrorism in conformity with international standards. This matter was also mentioned in the UNHRC resolution.   

Meanwhile, the European Union had also requested the government to act in this regard for the granting of the GSP plus facility   Sources said the new legislation included a broad definition of terrorism.
