Countrywide fuel distribution will return to normal by today,  Petroleum Resources Development Minister Chandima Weerakkody said.

He said the CPC workers had called off their strike action after a written assurance was given by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.   LATE-CITY-DM-1-8
However, CPC Trade unions’ collective media spokesman Bandula Saman Kumara said it would take at least three more days for countrywide fuel distribution to return to normal.

“There was a fuel shortage after the New Year holidays. It worsened after the strike action,” he said.

Mr. Kumara said the daily demand for diesel was between 4,500 and 5,000 metric tons; between 2,500 and 3,000 metric tons of petrol and 200 metric tons of kerosene.

He said during the strike out of 1300 filling stations had run out of fuel and the risk of the Bandaranaike International Airport running out of aircraft fuel.
