Many Madonna fans erupted in joy at news that a biopic of her early career is percolating at Universal, but Madge herself isn’t pleased with the news.

‘Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen,’ the 58-year-old fumed Tuesday alongside a throwback Instagram photo of herself. ‘Only I can tell my story.’ She went on: ‘Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool.

Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society.’

Its title comes from that of Madonna’s legendary 1990 world tour, which Alex Keshishian immortalised in the raucous documentary Madonna: Truth Or Dare.

Yet the new script follows Madonna Louise Ciccone in the crime-ridden New York City of the 1980s, where she cobbled together her 1983 eponymous debut album.

After dropping out of University Of Michigan School Of Music, Theatre & Dance, she’d decamped to the Big Apple in 1978 to dance professionally.

She soon drifted into vocals, and a dalliance with Dan Gilroy of the punk pop band The Breakfast Club scored her gigs drumming, then lead singing, for the group.
