The Government yesterday decided to appoint a new Cabinet spokesman for the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) instead of removing Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne from the post.   DM_20170510_A001-10

This decision was taken after Labour Minister John Seneviratne backed by a few other SLFP ministers urged President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday to remove Dr. Senaratne from the post. His remarks about Minister Sarath Fonseka being assigned to deal with emergency situations were disputed by Mr. Seneviratne and some others.

When this matter came up for discussion at the Cabinet it was decided to appoint yet another Cabinet spokesman representing the SLFP with the name to be proposed by the President as the party leader.

It is learnt that Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa is being considered for this post and if this appointment is made, there will be three Cabinet spokesmen in addition to Media Minister Gayantha Karunatilake.
