UPFA North-Central provincial councillor Susil Gunaratne was sworn in as Minister of Transport and Youth Affairs by the North Central Province Governor P.B. Dissanayaka yesterday in the presence of  NCP Chief Minister Peshala Jayaratne.

The  Council crisis took a dramatic turn yesterday when Susil Gunaratne, who had submitted an affidavit switching loyalty to the joint opposition a few days ago was sworn in as a provincial minister.

Provincial councillor S.M. Ranjith had resigned from his ministerial portfolio last week
He was among the 17 members who signed affidavits seeking the appointment of S.M. Ranjith of the JO as the Chief Minister on the basis that Chief Minister Peshala Jayaratne had lost majority support to administer the council.

The remaining members who had joined the JO are expected to meet former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the latest situation.
