The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), which was to launch a countrywide 8 hour token strike today said it had extended the strike to 24 hours following a sudden decision made at the GMOA Executive Committee meeting, GMOA said yesterday.

The GMOA however said emergency services, maternity hospitals, children’s hospitals, cancer hospitals, tri-forces hospitals and the renal treatment units will not be affected by the strike.

The GMOA had earlier warned that it would launch an 8 hour token strike over the Government’s alleged attempt to arrest GMOA President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya and several other demands.
