PC hearing CB bond scam records evidence in camera

 The Presidential Commission hearing the alleged Central Bank bond scam, decided to hear evidence related to Perpetual Treasuries in camera. 


Accordingly, the media was barred from covering the proceedings that took place yesterday (21).  
Additional Director of the Central Bank Wasantha Alwis gave evidence on the dealings of Perpetual Treasuries, a primary dealer alleged to be involved in the bond scam.  

The examination of the evidence took place in front of a bench of Supreme Court Judges K. T.Chithrasiri and Prasanna Jayewardene and former Deputy Auditor General Velupillai Kandasamy.   

This Presidential Commission was set up to look into the issue of treasury bonds during the period February 2015 to March 31, 2016.   
The Central Bank additional director was called to give evidence on the bond issues that took place during this time.When he got up to give evidence Deputy Solicitor General Milinda Gunatillake requested the commission to record the evidence presented in camera and without the public, including the press being present. The three-member bench acceded to his request and requested the press to leave the room and thereafter recorded evidence from Mr. Alwis in secret.
