Speaking to Daily Mirror the minister said several reports had reached them that certain individuals and groups were collecting money while claiming that it was for flood victims.

The minister reiterated that the required funds had already been released to Government Agents in the Provinces to provide relief to those affected by the recent landslides and floods.

He advised those wishing to help the relief effort not to hand over their hard earned money to individuals or groups who have absolutely no right to collect money for this cause. He said if anyone wished to make a donation to help persons affected by the flooding they should contact the Disaster Management Ministry and obtain instructions on how they should go about doing it.
