The Colombo High Court yesterday released six army intelligence officers including Major Prabath Bulathwatte on a cash bail of Rs.35,000 each with three sureties of Rs.1.5 million each.  They had been remanded  on charges of abducting and assaulting ‘The Nation’ newspaper’s associate editor Keith Noyahr.

The Court ordered the suspects to surrender their passports to court and also ordered them to report to the CID every Sunday to avoid interfering with the witnesses.

The Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court had earlier released the suspects on bail but the CID filed a bail revision application in the High Court.

Later, the Colombo High Court suspended the Magistrate’s bail order.

Considering the submissions made by the State counsel who appeared for the Attorney General and the counsel appearing for the suspects, the Colombo High Court yesterday granted bail on fresh conditions.
