The Sanath Jayasuriya led National Cricket Selection Committee has been given a six-month extension, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced yesterday, upon the ratification of Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera.
The committee, also comprising Romesh Kaluwitharana, Ranjith Madurasinghe, Eric Upashantha and the National Team’s Cricket Manager Asanka Gurusinha, will serve till December 31.  Sanath-Jayasuriya
The term of the committee ended on June 30, and the  previously reported that members of the Executive Committee were split as to whether Jayasuriya’s and the committee’s, term should be extended, with suggestions that it was unlikely that it would be.
The selection policy of the committee has come under fire with over 40 players used in ODIs over the last year and little sustained success during that period.
Following series defeats against England in all three formats, Sri Lanka whitewashed Australia in a Test Series at home, before wrapping up a two-match Test series and a Triangular Series in Zimbabwe.
But that was the start of a difficult period for Sri Lanka during which they lost to South Africa in a Test and ODI series before drawing the series in all three formats against a surging Bangladesh Team.  Sri Lanka also crashed out from the first-round of the ICC Champions Trophy last month. In between Sri Lanka had success in T20 Series’ in South Africa and England.
