Sri Lanka Under 20 sevens outfit will defend their title at the Asian Under 20 Sevens 2017 which will be worked off at the Kings Park grounds in Kowloon on August 4 and 5. Sri Lanka won the tournament last year under Peterite Kevin Dixon in the two round event in Malaysia and Hong Kong.

The side will once again be coached by former Isipathana, Police, Kandy SC and Sri Lankan sevens star, Sudath Sampath. The squad in training is reported to be facing a few injury concerns. Supun Dilshan of Science College is likely to lead the outfit on tour. Already 25 players are undergoing training and eight more players from the Under 18 side which participated in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Bahamas too were included. The touring 12 member squad will be announced later tomorrow.

The winner of this event will get a berth in the Junior World Rugby Sevens event which will take place in Uruguay in August. In 2016 Sri Lanka ended as champions with South Korea placed at number two and Hong Kong suffered  a surprise decline to the third position. Japan participated only in the first leg in Malaysia and the Asian Giants opted out of the Hong Kong phase.
