The parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has launched an investigation on a deputy minister who had applied undue influence on the government to pay Rs.110 million to a certain medical supplier.

Sources said the deputy minister had sent several letters to the medical supplies division requesting its officials to make the payment.   It was revealed that these letters had been sent despite the medical supplies division owing Rs.3 billion to various suppliers of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. This amount is due for purchases made by the health authorities from January to July, 2017.
